Volvo trucks have been around for many years. Volvo was first established in 1927 with the release of their first cars and the first trucks to come from the company rolled off the line in 1928. The LV Series 1 was the first ever Volvo truck to be manufactured. Though the LV Series was a truck and trucks were not considered to be of the utmost importance during this era, this one was immediately successful and Volvo had sold 500 models shortly after its release.

Volvo is now operating in 17 different countries and has approximately 40,000 people employed from all over the world. The Volvo main headquarters is located in Gothenburg, Sweden but this company produces and distributes trucks on a global level. Volvo trucking company also includes Renault, Mack and UD trucks.

Today Volvo manufactures its truck cabs in Umea which is located in north Sweden. The engines are manufactured in Skovde and there are currently assembly plants located in various global areas such as Belgium, the United States, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, China, India and Russia. Volvo is currently one of the most global truck manufacturing organizations in the world. Offices and dealers can be found in virtually every major country. Volvo currently produces both the Volvo and Mack class 8 trucks in plants located in Dublin, VA and Macungie, PA. The Powertrain operation of Volvo currently manufactures both engines and transmissions at a facility located in Hagerstown, MD. This facility manufactures these parts for exclusive use in the North American market
