Volvo Cars will go back to the auto industry center stage to make way for the world’s largest show for classic cars for sale and everything else connected to the classic-car fad. The automaker will showcase a techno-classica show dubbed “As times goes by – 80 years with Volvo cars.”

Volvo has produced remarkable cars that are etched in the auto industry’s history. The luxury car division of the Ford Motor Co. is now 80 years old. It has been 80 years since the first car left the Volvo factory in Goteborg. To celebrate eight decade of existence and excellence, Volvo Cars will showcase eight cars that trace the company’s history.

This year’s techno-classica show which is scheduled to happen between March 28 and April 1 will be showcasing ÖV4 and other Volvo birthday celebrants - each celebrating a different decade. Using landmark cars, the exhibition will be present the development of the company from start until the present time. Some of the old cars are no longer popular outside Sweden hence the company chose to display its parade of cars in Essen.

The techno-classica show will bring into reality some of those Volvo car units that could only be seen on the web and on other collector item magazines. Classic and modern auto parts that include Volvo axle, wheels, brakes, fenders, bumper, engines, mirrors, doors and other accessories will be showcased by the automaker in their respective models. Moreover, the event should not be missed out by aficionados, collectors and critics. The show could be the last opportunity for them to take a look at some Volvo models.

The Volvo ÖV4 can be seen together with the PV52. The Volvo ÖV4 was the first car built by the automaker. The name of this automobile, in Swedish, stands for “Öppen Vagn 4 cylindrar” which means, Open Carriage 4 cylinders. It was popularly called “Jacob.” The Volvo PV52, on the other hand, was manufactured by the company in 1936. It was later replaced by the PV52 the following year.

Other landmark models include the PV444, Amazon, the first version of the 145 estate car, a 240 in jubilee guise, the sporty 480 Turbo and the very latest addition to Volvo’s model range, the C30 T5. Volvo PV444 was mass produced from 1947 to 1965. The model tickled enthusiasts’ fetish for solid durable ride with a delightful drive feel. The Amazon, a midsize car produced from 1956 to 1970, was unveiled to serve as an alternative to the PV.

The Volvo 145 estate car came from the 140 series that also include 142 (2-doors), 144 (4-doors), and 145 Express with a higher roof. The latter is a replacement for the Duett. The Volvo 240, consequently, came from the 200 series, which was later on replaced by Volvo 140 and 164. The Volvo 240 was produced from 1974 to 1993. In 1988, a Turbo version of 480 was unveiled by the automaker. The sporty car increased the power of its predecessor from 109 to 120 horsepower.

Finally, the automaker will end the history Volvo parade with its latest addition to the clan – the C30 T5. The production car was launched at the 2006 Paris Motor Show. The T5 version of the Volvo C30 is a premium hatchback that is especially engineered to cater to young generation drivers. The automaker is set to produce 65,000 units of the car annually. Seventy five percent of which is for the European market.

The award-winning Volvo C30 draws inspiration from its older siblings. In Germany, the car has already received two prestigious awards - the Goldenes Lenkrad (Golden Steering Wheel) from one of the major Sunday papers, Bild am Sonntag, and Auto Zeitung’s Auto Trophy award in the best compact car class.
