The price of gas is starting to get more and more expensive as the price of gas goes up many people are looking for accessories to add to their truck in order to improve their gas mileage. There are not very many accessories that can really help your gas mileage but many people are starting to look into ways to increase their power using cold air intake systems.

High-performance cold air intake systems help engines run on the air by trapping and filtering the air as it comes into the engine. Most regular fuel injected vehicles have a filter that is not a space mounted filter on top of the engine like of the carburetors of cars and trucks do. With a cold air intake system there is usually some kind of divider that separates how the air filters and enters into the engine. These intake systems provide cold air coming through the grill of the truck this is a more appealing option than grabbing warm air from under the hood. Because cold air is more dance it is better for your fuel injector and willing hands the horsepower of your truck.

You can purchase performance kits that include all the hardware you will need to install your cold air intake system. Actually installing the system may not take very long for somebody who knows what they’re doing; a skilled mechanic should be able to complete the task in only a couple of hours.

When your system has been installed you may actually hear the air as it enters the filter. When you are going slow you may only here a small noise, but as you start going faster you will hear a much louder roaring. Most people who have a cold air intake system actually think this roaring is a pretty cool sound and do not find it very annoying.

Many manufacturers claim that by using a cold air intake system you’ll actually get better gas mileage with your truck. But unfortunately there ’s not any hard documentation to prove this fact. So for now the only reason for installing a system like this is because they are better for your engine and if you like the cool roaring noise that you get when going fast.

If you are not a mechanic and still would like to get a cold air intake system try visiting your local mechanic and asking them if they think it would be a good fit for your truck. You might also want to check out and see if anybody else has a cold air intake system already on their truck that you could possibly take a look at or hear about for having one installed on your truck.

With the increasing price of gas any little thing that you do to help save gas and save you money is a great idea. Although the cold air intake system is not proven to reduce gas mileage many people have done their own experiments with it and asked down that they do get better gas mileage with this type of system installed on their truck.

There is a huge market for used pickup trucks for both sellers and buyers. The pickup trucks of manufacturing companies such as Volvo, Renault, Mercedes Benz, DAF, Farbs, Nissan and Iveco, are freely available in the market. Before deciding to buy a used pickup truck, it is important that you set your priorities. You also need to consider if you have a preference for a particular truck manufacturer, based upon your personal experience or the feedback of your friends. Yet even if you have confidence in a particular brand, it is better to study the other options available in the market. This is because, due to stiff competition, leading manufacturing companies take every possible step to ensure that their product meets consumer satisfaction. So you might get benefits that you had not really considered while setting your priorities.

You should take care to consider your business requirements and also your budget. Do you need a small pickup truck for its basic purpose, which is hauling cargo? Or do you need a full sized truck, which can tow a trailer and a boat also? If you have greater towing needs, go for a full-sized truck, or a multipurpose pickup truck that can serve as a car-cum-pickup truck. Keep in mind that the smaller compact trucks have better fuel efficiency than the heavier vehicles. Also, you need to consider the space, depending upon the size of items you have to move.

You should also check the performance capacity of the engine. Compact trucks have four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, while the bigger ones have six-cylinders and other configurations.

Once you have decided the buy a model, you should visit your local market to survey and get the quotations and also the associated warranties or guarantees, if any, along with the data of the running conditions. You can also search the Internet for information and competitive prices

Volvo trucks have been around for many years. Volvo was first established in 1927 with the release of their first cars and the first trucks to come from the company rolled off the line in 1928. The LV Series 1 was the first ever Volvo truck to be manufactured. Though the LV Series was a truck and trucks were not considered to be of the utmost importance during this era, this one was immediately successful and Volvo had sold 500 models shortly after its release.

Volvo is now operating in 17 different countries and has approximately 40,000 people employed from all over the world. The Volvo main headquarters is located in Gothenburg, Sweden but this company produces and distributes trucks on a global level. Volvo trucking company also includes Renault, Mack and UD trucks.

Today Volvo manufactures its truck cabs in Umea which is located in north Sweden. The engines are manufactured in Skovde and there are currently assembly plants located in various global areas such as Belgium, the United States, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, China, India and Russia. Volvo is currently one of the most global truck manufacturing organizations in the world. Offices and dealers can be found in virtually every major country. Volvo currently produces both the Volvo and Mack class 8 trucks in plants located in Dublin, VA and Macungie, PA. The Powertrain operation of Volvo currently manufactures both engines and transmissions at a facility located in Hagerstown, MD. This facility manufactures these parts for exclusive use in the North American market

The world’s most famous car manufacturer in terms of safety recently announced that they have recalled a number of their vehicles. The recall covers different models in Volvo’s lineup. The reason behind the recall is the discovered defect on the vehicles’ cooling unit which can cause fire in the engine bay. This development brings to mind the recall announced by Volvo’s parent, Ford, due to reported fires in their Super Duty pickup trucks. While for Ford, the problem is in the particulate filter found near the tailpipe, Volvo’s problem is more threatening since fire can start in the engine bay area.

The recall was announced after the fault was discovered by Volvo’s technicians following a test conducted on their vehicles. The said test was performed at Volvo’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. The discovery of the problem means that there have been no reported incident of fire caused by the fault in some of Volvo’s vehicle’s cooling units. The car manufacturer announced that 392 vehicles are currently being recalled in Britain.

The 392 vehicles found with the fault in the cooling unit is composed of different Volvo models which includes the award-winning XC90, the mid-size station wagon V70, the XC70, and the S60 models. These vehicles are known for providing good number of safety features and good performance level. While the fault may have posed a risk to consumers, Volvo has acted swiftly to prevent any untoward accidents which may happen due to the faulty cooling units. In that case, not even a Volvo vent visor would be of any use to its owner.

The problem was discovered to be a fault in the cooling system with the help of German corporation Robert Bosch which is more simply known as Bosch. It was found out that the cooling unit’s metal cover has inadequate corrosion protection. It was inferred that moisture could eventually find its way to the unit’s electrical components which would then cause severe damage or even the risk of an electrical fire. With regards to the expected reaction of Volvo vehicle owners, a spokesman for Volvo said that “it only relates to a small number of cars and we have contacted all the owners.” The spokesman also added that “if anyone is concerned they should contact their dealer.”

Volvo’s immediate response to the discovered fault shows that they are indeed focused on providing safe cars for their consumers. Volvo is the producer of the world’s safest cars. The company is the leading car manufacturer in terms of developing safety features for their vehicles. Some of the more notable safety features of Volvo vehicles are the BLIS and the ROPS. BLIS stands for Blind Spot Information System. It is essentially composed of onboard cameras which monitors the blind spot of a vehicle. The system warns the driver if any vehicle has entered his or her blind spot. ROPS on the other hand stands for Roll Over Protection System. This safety system uses sensors to maintain the car’s balance therefore reducing the risk of rollovers.

Volvo Trucks is looking to increase their presence at the Russian truck market as the demand for trucks in the said country continue to increase. Recently, the Swedish truck manufacturer received an order for 300 trucks from the Russian logistics company Sunflower. The agreement between the two companies includes the financing for all the 30 trucks by way of the Volvo Financing Services. This order gives Volvo Trucks a big boost in increasing their popularity in the region.

Sunflower is one of the biggest logistics company in Russia and has businesses in the car hauling segment. The company also provides other services aside from transportation such as forwarding, storage, and customs clearance. The increasing demand for passenger cars in the country is the reason why Sunflower is expanding its fleet. This also means that Volvo is in a position to take advantage of the growing auto market in the country.

Lars Corneliusson, the General Director of Volvo Trucks Russia, has this to say: “This far-reaching order shows that Volvo Trucks is the most attractive business partner for advanced transport companies in Russia. It also proves that our focus on supporting and facilitating customers’ business development is effective.”

The order for the 300 Volvo trucks came after the Swedish company sent a delegation in the country in relation to the construction of a new plant in the country. The construction of the new plant is expected to begin shortly after the Swedish company signs an agreement with the Russian authorities. The truck assembly plant will be constructed in the city of Kaluga which is just 200 kilometers from Moscow. After the visit of Volvo’s delegation at the said city, it is expected that the local authorities and Volvo will soon reach an agreement. It is expected that the truck assembly plant will be opened and be fully operational by the year 2009.

As a company that has manufacture automobiles since the early 1900s, Ford Motor (NYSE: F, Bullboard) needs little introduction. Aside from its eponymous line of Ford vehicles, the company also produces Lincoln and Mercury, owns a 33% stake in Mazda (OTO: MZDAF, Bullboard), and controls Volvo (OTO: VOLVY, Bullboard). In the past couple years, Ford sold its Hertz (NYSE: HTZ, Bullboard) line of car-rental locations and is in the process of selling Land Rover and Jaguar to India-based Tata Motors (NYSE: TTM, Bullboard) for a reported $2.3 billion.

While rising crude oil prices and pressures at the pump have turned consumers away from the company’s line of SUVs and award-winning pickup trucks, Ford is in the early stages of a turnaround masterminded by CEO Alan Mulally. In April, total auto sales retreated 12.2% to 200,727 cars and trucks. However, while truck sales plunged 18.3%, the new Focus compact saw sales spike 43.5% from a year ago. What’s more, Fusion sedan sales rose 22.4%.

The turnaround is also apparent in the company’s quarterly earnings reports. On April 24, Ford announced that it swung to a first-quarter profit of $100 million, or five cents per share, due to cost reductions in North America and strong international profits. Analysts were looking for a loss of 15 cents per share. Many analysts touted the results as proof that Mulally’s plan is on track. Ford also said it bought out 4,200 hourly workers during the quarter as part of its ongoing restructuring plan.

These strengthening fundamentals are also having an impact on Ford stock. Since the beginning of the year, F has risen more than 21%, easily outpacing the S&P 500 Index’s loss of more than 4%. During this time frame, the equity has enjoyed the support of its 10-day and 20-day moving averages – trendlines that F has not closed a session below since March 19.

In 1980 Volvo bought White after White’s bankruptcy filing. The Canadian assets were purchased by a consortium of two Alberta energy companies, and were renamed Western Star Trucks.

Throughout the 1980s, Volvo produced White and Autocar, as well as distributing European-made Volvo. The White high cabover engine model was also badged a Western Star and sold through that company’s Canadian dealer network.

In 1987, Volvo acquired the heavy-duty truck models of General Motors, and began marketing the WhiteGMC badge, although all of the legacy GMC product lines were discontinued by 1990.

In 1997 the WhiteGMC name was discontinued, and all models were badged either Volvo or Autocar. In 2000, the remaining Autocar products were discontinued, and the nameplate was retired (temporarily) after over 100 years.

In 2001 Volvo acquired Renault Vehicules Industriels, including Mack Trucks in the United States. In order to secure the approval of the authorities to proceed with the merger, Volvo had to agree to divest of its low-cab-forward (LCF) models, known as the Xpeditor range, due to the degree the combination of this product with the Mack MR and LE series dominated the refuse markets in which these vehicles are predominantly used.

In 2001, Volvo divested of the Xpeditor product and the rights to the Autocar trademark. The purchaser was Grand Vehicle Works LLC, a private equity venture based in Indiana that also produced stripped chassis for vans and recreational vehicles, and walk-in van bodies for parcel delivery service.

Today, Volvo produces Volvo and Mack class 8 truck models at plants in Dublin, VA, and Macungie, PA. Affiliate Volvo Powertrain produces engines and transmissions at its Hagerstown, MD, facility, for use exclusively in the North American market.

Other plant manufacturers are thought to be mulling over the move with a view to introducing their own price increases once the effect of the Volvo announcement has been assessed.

Industry insiders claimed that rival producers would keep close tabs on the market to see if customers were willing to pay the extra cost before increasing prices.

Volvo Construction Equipment, the plant arm of the Swedish conglomerate, produces a range of equipment including scrapers, graders, excavators and dump trucks.

The move will affect all new orders of machines, attachments and parts but existing deals will be honoured.

Executive vice president Scott Hall said price increases were inevitable as the prices of steel and other commodities were rocketing to such an extent it was no longer able to absorb these hikes. He also blamed demand across developing countries, notably China.

Mr Hall said: “Manufacturers of heavy construction equipment are being particularly hard hit by the current record prices of commodities such as steel, oil, iron ore and rubber. With no sign of commodity prices cooling, it has become unavoidable that these costs be offset.”

Colin Timms of construction plant analyst Off Highway Research said the manufacturer had introduced the price increase at exactly the right time. He said: “Because of the strength of the market at the moment - there are long delivery times and the plant manufacturing sector is running at an all time high - this round of price increases are likely to stay.”

Since Ray’s Transport Limited began trading over seven years ago, Managing Director, Ray Duckworth has purchased a number of marques. However, as Ray commented, “Having tested the market with a number of manufacturers I’ve remained loyal to Volvo over the past few years,” adding that, “After operating over 15 Volvos in recent years I can honestly say that their exceptional reputation is greatly deserved.”

In terms of vehicle performance, the latest Euro 4 Volvo FH additions to the 10-strong fleet were specified with 480 bhp, Globetrotter XL cabs in ‘Prestige’ trim, I-Shift automated transmission and all plated for 44 tonne GCW.

Ray added, “With over 27 years in the haulage industry I have seen a number of costly problems with manual transmission systems. However, as all my newer vehicles have the I-Shift system, they have been fantastic and more importantly, problem free.”

The three vehicles were purchased from Area Sales Manager, Mark Lingard at Thomas Hardie Commercials in Middlewich, where they will be serviced and maintained.

Along with the rest of Ray’s fleet the vehicles can be seen operating from their Winsford base across the North-west, working on a number of contracts including Morrison’s foods and Maxi Haulage.

CV truck and trailer diagnostic equipment specialist supplier Eclipse Automotive will announce an upgrade for its EclipseTest Pad Diagnostic package at the Commercial Vehicle Show next week. The new Version 15 software further extends the applications of this all-makes diagnostic package still further, adding new systems capabilities on Volvo, Scania, Iveco, MAN and Mercedes-Benz models – to name just a few.

The new software extends fitter capabilities, providing fleet engineers, independent repairers, dealers and local authority users with the tools to diagnose a wide range of faults across a broad range of mixed fleets.

Specific recent enhancements include activation and adjustment function implementation on Renault VI models to include diesel injection testing, engine regulation, automatic gearbox, suspension and instrument checks on the Magnum and Premium ranges. Volvo specific additions include clutch initialisation of all I-Schift and Geartronic gearboxes, while new wiring loom data for Scania R and P range models extends the depth of coverage for Scandinavian-built trucks.

Recent upgrades have empowered fitters with the ability to identify many more problems on many more on-board systems. WABCO’s ECAS CAN air suspensions and MTS doors management systems are two cases in point.

The Eclipse Test Pad package for trucks and trailers is a true all makes diagnostic system, providing one of the most comprehensive diagnostic tools for specialist repairers of CV trucks, trailers and buses.
